Why Free Could Cost You Dearly

Free Could Cost YouEverybody loves to get free stuff. I certainly do. And I do it often. There’s nothing wrong with signing up for free information…to learn something new, or to get to know someone and see if they’ve got something for you. This is how I found my current mentor, and she’s made a massive impact in my business as well as my life.

But when it comes to people offering their services (their time!) for free, you gotta start getting cautious.

Because it could cost you dearly, and in the very long term.

I had a client with a very inspirational product. People were loving the product and the message. They offered to ‘help her out’, just to help her spread the word. They were going to do the work for her…for FREE! They came with sound experience. She jumped at the chance (who wouldn’t).

Here’s what happened:

They did the work. They spent her advertising budget (which wasn’t a lot, but they basically threw it down the toilet). They had absolutely no idea what they were doing.

It did a lot of damage.

Not only did they waste her time. Her gratitude. Her money. It was much worse than that. They wasted her self-confidence. Her belief that the process could work if it had been done properly. Her trust.

The result is worse than you can imagine. Because the process could have worked perfectly well for her. It could have made her some real, well-deserved and much needed cash, and that over and over again. 

Whatever you delegate in your business, you need to find the right people for the job, not the free people. The right people, the ones who know what they’re doing. People who know how to get results will generally charge for their services, and that’s ok. If you want to make some money, you have got to spend some.

I’m not saying that being charged for a service guarantees results, but very rarely (if ever) will you get a free service and get great results.
